Most connection trouble comes down to one of a few things standing between your phone and DETENT Bridge on your PC. Work down this list before anything else.
The app can't find the bridge
- Windows Firewall prompt declined
- The first time DETENT Bridge runs, Windows asks to allow it through the firewall on private networks. If that prompt was dismissed or answered No, open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through firewall, find DETENT Bridge, and check both Private and Public.
- VPN active on the PC or the phone
- A VPN on either device routes traffic off your local network, so the phone and the bridge stop seeing each other. Turn off the VPN on both and reconnect.
- Router blocking device-to-device traffic (AP or client isolation)
- Guest Wi-Fi networks and some mesh routers isolate devices from each other by design, even though both are on the same Wi-Fi. Move the PC and phone onto the main network, or disable AP isolation / client isolation in the router settings.
- Phone and PC on different networks
- Both devices need to be on the same subnet, and ideally the same Wi-Fi band. A phone on 5 GHz and a PC wired to a different router, or a phone still connected to cellular data, will not find each other. Confirm both are on the exact same Wi-Fi network.
- iOS Local Network permission declined
- DETENT needs the Local Network permission to discover DETENT Bridge on your Wi-Fi. If it was declined, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, find DETENT, and turn it on. Restart the app afterward.
Where the logs are
- Bridge log (Windows)
- DETENT Bridge writes bridge.log while it runs. Open the tray app, go to Settings, and choose Open log folder to find it.
- iOS crash and hang reports
- In the DETENT app, go to Settings > Diagnostics. It lists recent crash and hang reports on the device and gives you a one-tap Send to support option that attaches them for us directly.
